Hey everyone! I just had to share this unforgettable experience with you.

Last November 2024, I had the chance to visit Sri Lanka for an ocular inspection of the upcoming retreats we’re organizing for our yoga ashram. Honestly, I didn’t expect much at first—I thought it would feel a lot like the Philippines. But Sri Lanka had a way of proving me completely wrong… in the best way possible.

We stayed at Talalla Retreat, a serene beach resort. Waking up that first morning to the sound of birds singing and the sight of gentle waves on the shore—it was such an awakening moment. Walking toward the beach, I was greeted by the most peaceful scene: local fishermen bringing in their daily catch, and locals buying fresh fish right from the boats.

It felt grounding, especially after spending over a decade working overseas. Watching people go about their everyday lives, dogs playfully running on the beach… it truly felt like home.

Breakfast was just as magical—outdoors, under the shade of towering trees, sipping fresh coconut water. It was a yes from me!

After breakfast, we visited Mulgirigala Rajamaha Viharaya, an ancient Buddhist rock temple nestled in southern Sri Lanka. Be prepared—it’s a bit of a climb (over 500 steps!), but the views and the energy at the top are absolutely worth it. The ancient rock caves, the mural paintings, and the serene statues of Lord Buddha were breathtaking. We were even blessed by one of the resident monks, which was incredibly humbling.

Next, we made a quick stop at Tangalle Beach—a wild, beautiful beach with big, crashing waves. I took a quiet moment to stand by the water, let the waves kiss my feet, and meditate. It was surreal, like I became one with the ocean.
We also visited a local handicraft shop filled with stunning creations made of wood, silk, textiles, gems, and more. Sri Lanka is known for its incredible handmade artistry, and it really shows.

Later, we hit the local market to pick up some freshly harvested fruits—something I truly miss living in Dubai. We then headed to Jasper House for lunch, and wow—what a meal! One of the best I’ve had in Sri Lanka. The highlight? A refreshing watermelon and cashew salad (fun fact: Sri Lanka is one of the top producers of cashews!).

Back at Talalla, I watched guests practicing yoga and meditation by the beach, which brought such a sense of peace. I sat by the pool, reflected on the day, and realized… this was only Day 1, and I was already falling in love with Sri Lanka.

Love,
